Creating new fields
When you add a new field to an object in Clarify (e.g., Location for People, Funding raised for Companies, or Score for Deals), you can either:
Generate the field with AI
Configure the field manually
Generate with AI
When you Add a new field from any List view, on the Generate tab:
Describe the field you want to create or pick one of the smart suggestions shown, which are contextual to the object type
Click Generate, and based on your description or the selected smart suggestion, Clarify will:
Give the field a Name (e.g., Risk assessment)
Pick the Type of field (e.g., Multiline text)
Enable Autofill with Instructions for the AI pre-filled
Now, on the Configure tab, you can review the field's settings:
Name
Type
Autofill
Make any edits before clicking Create to add the field to the object. If autofill is enabled, you will be able to choose from the following options:
Create and autofill first 10 rows of the current list
Create and autofill all rows of the current list
Create and don't autofill any rows of the current list
Configure manually
When you Add a new field from any List view, on the Configure tab:
Give the field a Name (e.g., Closed lost reason)
Pick the Type of field (e.g., Single select)
Enable Autofill if relevant
Autofill fields with AI
Note: Fields with autofill enabled are denoted by ✨ alongside the field name on lists.
The easiest way to get started with autofill is to generate a new field using AI, as the AI will write the Instructions for it to follow based on your description of the field you want generated. You can also manually configure autofill:
When creating a new or editing an existing field, toggle on Autofill with AI
Enter Instructions for the AI to follow to autofill the field:
By default, the AI will have access to all fields except for relationships on the record object you are acting against.
(Optional) Click Insert context (or type {) to add associated records to your instructions to improve the AI's context.
(Optional) Permit the AI to use Internet research at its discretion to populate the field.
The AI can only access publicly available information. It will not be able to reference information on pages that require authentication, e.g., LinkedIn profiles.
Writing good instructions
If writing your own Instructions for the AI to follow, keep the following tips in mind:
Provide clear guidance to the AI. The more detail you provide, the easier it will be for the AI to generate an accurate value.
If the selected field type allows free-form text and you expect a response in a particular format, tell the AI, e.g.,
Respond with a person's name, such as 'John Doe'.If you want to know explicitly when the AI cannot generate output based on your instructions, instruct it to output something to clarify this, rather than leaving the field empty, e.g.,
'No churn reason identified'.When you want the AI to reference additional context, like the last 10 meetings with people at a company, make sure to Insert context.
How to use AI Autofill
Here are a few ways our team is utilizing AI Autofill at Clarify.
On Deals
Surfacing known competitors: What competitors have been mentioned?
By looking at past meetings and emails (messages), the AI can identify alternative solutions being used or evaluated, providing critical context for future follow-ups.
Identify blockers: What's blocking this deal?
Understand at a glance what’s blocking a deal from moving forward by asking the AI to look at recent emails and meetings and pull out items like product and feature requests that are referred to as blockers.
Capture closed lost/won: Why did we win/lose this deal?
Instead of having to manually fill out why a deal was lost (or won!), just ask AI to look at the most recent emails (messages) and meetings and capture the details and reason for you.
On Companies
Identify ideal customers: Is this company my ICP?
When you have specific criteria for what constitutes an Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) for your business, you can instruct the AI to tell you if a company is a match or not.
Value Assets Under Management
If you sell to VC funds, by researching the internet, the AI can determine the value of “Assets Under Management” to help you determine if a VC Fund (Company) is a fit for your solution.
Understand churn: Why did this customer cancel?
It’s not always the case, but for the times a customer tells you why they want to cancel or will be cancelling over email or on a call, you can instruct the AI to capture a concise reason for churn.
Running autofill
You can use autofill on enabled fields from individual Deal, Company, or Person records. Additionally, autofill can be run from lists to populate multiple records at once:
Via the column header of a field with autofill enabled:
Autofill first 10 rows: This is great for testing and validating.
Autofill all rows
Autofill empty rows
On individual records: This will run autofill on the selected field for that record only.
Field states
Once autofill has run, the selected records will go through a few phases before being filled based on your instructions:
Queued: Request received, to be processed.
Processing: When words like Shaping, Spinning, Ideating, or Pondering are displayed, the AI is actively completing the request.
Understand AI reasoning
For any autofilled field, hover over it and click AI reasoning to see the logic the AI used to populate it.
AI Autofill cost
Credits are used when you run AI Autofill on rows (records) in a list. Each field (column) that you autofill consumes a set number of credits, depending on whether Internet research is enabled.
AI Autofill setting | Credits per row (per field) |
❌ No internet research | 3 credits |
✅ Internet research | 30 credits |
Example: Autofilling 100 rows for one field = 300 credits (no internet research) or 3,000 credits (with internet research).
FAQ's
Why is variable context limited to the last 10 records?
Why is variable context limited to the last 10 records?
The AI can only use a maximum of 10 most recent records for each variable in its instructions. For example, if you insert the variable {People > Meetings} and there are 100 associated meetings, only the last 10 will be given to the AI.
Can the AI see meeting transcripts?
Can the AI see meeting transcripts?
No. Transcripts from meetings are not supplied to the AI. Instead, the AI can use meeting summaries if instructed or it determines it’s relevant context.
Can I automatically re-run autofill?
Can I automatically re-run autofill?
Not yet… There is currently no ability to automatically re-run autofill on a set schedule or when another action takes place (e.g., a record is updated, or new records are added to a list). We plan to make this possible when AI Autofill is made generally available.
