See what each customer pays, which subscriptions are active, and which invoices are still open, without switching to Stripe. The Stripe sync brings your Stripe billing data into Clarify and keeps it current, so you, Rep, and your agents can work with it alongside the rest of your CRM.
Setup runs as a chat with Rep. You paste a Stripe API key, Rep reads your Stripe account and proposes what to sync, and the sync starts once you confirm.
Stripe sync or the personal Stripe connector?
Connectors lists Stripe twice. They do different jobs:
| Stripe under Team | Stripe under Personal |
What it does | Copies Stripe data into Clarify as records | Lets Rep look things up and take actions in Stripe when you ask |
Who sets it up | A workspace admin, once for the whole workspace | Each person, for their own account |
Data in Clarify | Yes, as records you can view, filter, and report on | No, Rep reads Stripe live |
This article covers the Team one. For the personal connector, see Rep Connectors.
Before you start
You need to be a workspace admin in Clarify. The Team Stripe tile only shows to admins, and Rep only sets up a sync for an admin.
You need a restricted API key from Stripe with read-only permissions. Creating one takes a couple of minutes. Follow the steps below.
Create a restricted key in Stripe
In Stripe, open Developers → API keys and click Create restricted key.
Under How will you be using this key?, choose Providing this key to a third-party application.
Enter a Name (for example, Clarify Integration) and the URL https://app.clarify.ai. Check Customize permissions for this key.
Leave every permission at None except these, which you set to Read:
Balance and Events: always needed. Clarify uses them to check the key and to pick up changes.
Customers, Subscriptions, and Invoices: the default sync.
Products and Prices: only if you want plan names, prices, or MRR.
Charges, PaymentIntents, and Refunds: only if you sync payments.
Create the key and copy it. You paste it into Clarify during setup.
Clarify never writes to Stripe, so no permission needs Write.
What syncs
Rep suggests three Stripe objects, each brought into its own new object in Clarify, named so you can tell it apart from anything you already have (for example, Stripe Customer and Stripe Invoice):
Customers
Subscriptions
Invoices
Take those, or ask Rep for a different set.
It's one way. Data flows from Stripe into Clarify. Nothing in Clarify changes your Stripe account.
Deletions don't sync. Deleting a customer, subscription, or invoice in Stripe leaves its record in Clarify.
Your Companies, People, and Deals stay untouched. Stripe data goes into its own objects, never into your existing records. A Stripe customer can be a person, a company, or one team inside a company, so it gets an object of its own. To connect the two, see Linking Stripe records to your CRM.
Already tracking billing in Clarify? If your workspace has its own Subscriptions or Invoices object, filled by a workflow or by hand, Rep tells you. The sync still gets new objects of its own, so the two don't overwrite each other.
Plan, price, and seats. Stripe keeps these on subscription items and products, not on the subscription itself. To see a subscription's plan, MRR, or seat count in Clarify, ask Rep to sync subscription items and products too, and give your key Read access to Products and Prices.
Amounts come in as whole currency units, so an invoice of $19.99 shows as 19.99, not Stripe's 1999.
Custom data. Stripe has no custom fields, but most accounts keep extra details in each object's metadata. Rep reads a few of your records and offers to map the metadata keys you use.
Setting up the sync
In the left sidebar, open Connectors.
Under Team, click the Stripe tile, then click Connect. Rep opens a chat and takes it from here.
When the Stripe card appears, paste your restricted key.
Wait while Clarify scans your Stripe account. This usually takes seconds.
Choose the objects to sync. Rep suggests customers, subscriptions, and invoices.
Review the objects and fields Rep proposes. Rep creates the new objects and fields in Clarify for you.
Choose whether Stripe records link to your existing CRM records (see Linking Stripe records to your CRM).
Confirm activation, and the sync goes live. If Rep asks you a question before activating, answer it, or the sync won't start.
Linking Stripe records to your CRM
Stripe customers, subscriptions, and invoices always link to each other. During setup, Rep also asks whether Stripe customers should link to your existing Companies or People:
No CRM link for now (the default). Stripe records stay on their own. You can add a link later.
Link to Company by email domain. Matches each Stripe customer's email domain to your company domains.
Link to People by email. Matches each Stripe customer's exact email to your people's email addresses.
Either link fills in only where a matching company or person already exists. A customer that matches nothing stays unlinked, and Clarify never creates companies or people from Stripe.
The link sits on the Stripe customer. A subscription or invoice reaches the company or person through its customer.
Linking by email domain works best when your customers sign up with work email. A customer paying with a personal address, such as a gmail.com one, won't match a company.
How records are matched
Each synced object gets a field holding the Stripe ID (the cus_, sub_, or in_ value), and records are matched on it. That keeps one Clarify record per Stripe record, even when two customers share a name.
Each record also gets a readable name:
Customers: the customer's name, or their email when there is no name
Subscriptions: the customer's name, the same way the Stripe dashboard titles them
Invoices: the invoice number
Stripe is the source of truth. When a value differs, the Stripe value wins.
Sync timing
The first sync takes the longest. Accounts with a few thousand invoices take around ten minutes, and larger accounts take longer. After that, the sync keeps running, and changes in Stripe reach Clarify without you doing anything.
What you see once it's running
Open Connectors and click the Stripe tile under Team. The panel shows:
A status badge, such as Connected
How many records have synced, and when the integration last updated
One card per object, with the Clarify object, the Stripe object, what they're matched on, and which side wins conflicts. Expand a card to see the field-by-field mapping.
A Diagnose button
Checking on the sync
Click Diagnose on the connector panel. Rep checks the integration, tells you what has synced so far, and flags anything that needs attention, such as a Stripe key that has been revoked or has expired.
You can also ask Rep about your setup directly, such as which fields are mapped on an object.
If you revoke or roll your Stripe key
The sync stops until Clarify has a working key. Open Connectors, click the Stripe tile under Team, and click Diagnose, or ask Rep to reconnect Stripe. Rep shows the Stripe card with a Reconnect button. Paste your new key. Your objects, mappings, and synced records stay as they are, and changes made in Stripe while the sync was stopped come through once it reconnects.
If the sync stops because the key is missing a permission
You don't need a new key. Edit the key's permissions in Stripe, and the next sync uses them.
Changing the setup later
Ask Rep to add an object, map another field, change a mapping, or add a CRM link. Changes take effect when you activate again.
Removing the integration
Ask Rep to remove your Stripe integration, then confirm.
Removal is permanent. The configuration, the mappings, and the connection are deleted.
Records and field values that already synced stay in Clarify. Only the sync setup goes.
Setting it up again means reconnecting and re-mapping from scratch.
You can also delete or roll the API key in Stripe at any time, which stops Clarify reading your account.
