LinkedIn conversations usually live in a separate tab from the rest of your pipeline. Connect LinkedIn to Clarify and new messages land on each person's record next to their emails and meetings, Rep can draft your LinkedIn replies, and campaigns can mix LinkedIn steps with email.
Your LinkedIn messages are private to you, and Clarify paces everything it sends from your account so it looks like a person working through their day.
ℹ️ LinkedIn is in beta and is turned on per workspace. To request access for your workspace, email [email protected].
How LinkedIn works in Clarify
Messages sync to records. New LinkedIn messages you send and receive appear on each person's Messages tab, including InMails and your Sales Navigator inbox. In some workspaces this tab is still called Emails.
You choose what syncs. All conversations, only people already in Clarify, or only people you've contacted.
Messages are private. Teammates see that you talked to someone, never what was said.
Send from Clarify. Send or reply from a person's record, or have Rep draft it. Nothing goes out without your click, except campaign steps you set up.
Campaigns with LinkedIn steps. Visit a profile, send a connection request, message a connection, or send an InMail as part of a sequence.
Built-in pacing. Daily limits, working hours, and random gaps between actions protect your LinkedIn account.
Before you start
A Chromium-based browser with the Clarify extension. You connect through the Clarify Chrome extension in Chrome, Arc, Brave, or Edge on a computer. Firefox, Safari, mobile browsers, and incognito windows aren't supported. In the desktop app, click Open in browser to finish there.
Any LinkedIn account works. Free accounts can sync, message, and send connection requests. InMail needs LinkedIn Premium, Sales Navigator, or Recruiter with InMail credits.
Each teammate connects their own LinkedIn. Admins can't connect an account for someone else.
One person per LinkedIn profile in a workspace. Once a teammate has connected a profile, nobody else in that workspace can connect it.
Connect LinkedIn
Sign in to LinkedIn in your browser.
In Clarify, go to Connectors in the left sidebar and open LinkedIn under Personal.
Click Connect. If the extension is missing, Clarify shows Install the Clarify extension with an Add the extension button. Install it and come back.
Check that the LinkedIn profile Clarify shows is yours. If it isn't, sign in to the right account on LinkedIn and come back.
Leave the privacy notice box checked and click Continue. Keep the window open for a few seconds while it connects.
Choose what syncs (see below) and click Save.
You only connect once. Clarify keeps working after you close the browser. Signing out of LinkedIn in that browser disconnects it, and you'll need to reconnect.
🔒 Clarify never asks for your LinkedIn password. The extension hands your existing LinkedIn sign-in straight to Clarify's servers to set up the connection. It never appears on the page and isn't saved in your browser.
Choose what syncs
Clarify asks right after you connect. Change it any time under Messages to sync on the LinkedIn connector.
Option | What syncs |
All conversations | Every conversation. New contacts become people in Clarify. |
Only people in Clarify | Conversations with people already in your CRM. Everyone else is skipped, and no new people are created. |
Only people you've contacted | Messages from people you've messaged or invited since connecting. New contacts become people in Clarify. |
"Contacted" means you wrote in that chat, messaged them from Clarify, sent them a connection request from Clarify (yourself, through Rep, or in a campaign), or resumed syncing them. Chats that started before you connected stay out.
Only people in Clarify keeps unknowns. When Clarify can't tell who someone in a chat is, it keeps the message rather than drop one you wanted.
Changes apply to new messages only. Messages already in Clarify stay.
Click Skip and Clarify syncs all conversations.
No history import. Clarify syncs messages from the moment you connect. Sponsored messages never sync.
Who can see your LinkedIn messages
Your LinkedIn messages are yours. Only you can read them, unless you share a message with a teammate.
Teammates can:
See that a LinkedIn message exists on a person's record: who sent it, when, and whether it was an InMail or a connection request. The text reads Message hidden.
Read a single message you share with them.
Teammates cannot:
Read the content of any LinkedIn message you haven't shared.
Read them because they're a workspace admin. Admins get no override.
Read them through an email inbox share. Sharing your email doesn't share LinkedIn.
How this affects search, Rep, and automations
Search finds LinkedIn message text only for people who can read it.
Rep, Slack, API keys, and MCP clients act as you, so they see only the LinkedIn messages you can read. When you ask Rep in a Slack channel, everyone in that channel sees its answer.
Your agents run as you and see what you see. When Rep builds an agent that triggers on LinkedIn messages, it limits the trigger to messages on your own account.
Workspace agents are the exception. Where your workspace has them, an admin can set up an agent for the whole workspace. It runs with workspace access, so it can read every member's LinkedIn messages.
Last interaction moves forward with each LinkedIn message, and everyone who can see the person sees the new date.
Stop syncing one person
Some conversations don't belong in the CRM: a friend, a job reference, a recruiter. Open the person's record, open the ⋯ menu, and click Stop syncing LinkedIn messages. The option appears once your LinkedIn is connected.
Clarify deletes your synced LinkedIn messages with them, group chats included, and skips new ones. That includes messages you sent them from Clarify.
It only affects you. Teammates keep syncing their own conversations with that person.
Click Resume syncing LinkedIn messages to start again. New messages sync; deleted ones don't come back.
If they reply to one of your campaigns, Clarify still stops the campaign for them without saving the reply.
You can't stop syncing your own record.
Send LinkedIn messages
From a record: open the Send menu on a person's record and pick LinkedIn, or click Reply in a LinkedIn conversation. The option is grayed out with No profile when the person has no LinkedIn URL.
With Rep: ask Rep to write someone on LinkedIn. Rep drafts a card you can send or edit, in the app or in Slack. A message too long for Slack gets an Open in Clarify button instead.
Agents draft, never send. An agent can trigger on a new LinkedIn message and draft a reply for you to review.
Campaigns are the only thing that sends in the background, and only the steps you set up.
How Clarify delivers a message:
Existing conversation: the message goes into it.
1st-degree connection, no conversation yet: Clarify starts a new chat.
Anyone else: it goes out as a connection request with your message as the note, up to 300 characters (200 on a free LinkedIn account). The compose box tells you: "You're not connected yet, so this goes out as a connection request note."
Right after you connect, Clarify syncs your connections list. Until that finishes, a send that would become a connection request is refused with "Your LinkedIn connections are still syncing. Try again in a few minutes.", because the person might already be a connection.
Daily limits and account safety
LinkedIn restricts accounts that act like bots. Clarify paces everything it sends so your account stays well inside what LinkedIn tolerates.
Daily limits
Each LinkedIn profile has its own limits, set under Daily limits on the LinkedIn connector:
Action | Default per day | Range |
Messages (including InMails) | 20 | 1–40 |
Connection requests (with or without a note) | 15 | 1–40 |
Profile visits (including the lookup before a connection request) | 20 | 1–40 |
Only what Clarify sends counts. Messages, invites, and visits you do directly on LinkedIn don't use Clarify's limits. They still count toward LinkedIn's own limits, so leave headroom if you're busy on LinkedIn or run another automation tool on the same account.
Everything in Clarify shares one set of limits. Your own sends, Rep, Slack, and every campaign draw from the same daily limits, first come, first served.
A change applies right away for the rest of the day. Each slider shows today's sends against its limit.
Need more volume? Have more teammates connect their own LinkedIn. Each profile has its own limits.
Working hours and pacing
Working hours default to Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in your time zone. Change them under Working hours on the LinkedIn connector.
Your own sends go out right away until you reach a limit. After that, Clarify offers Schedule for a time in your next working hours. Click it to queue the send, and cancel it any time before it goes out.
Campaigns send in a few short sessions at random times inside your working hours, with random gaps between actions. A campaign with its own sending schedule uses that instead.
Campaigns use part of the limit, a different amount each day (60–100%), so no two days look the same.
When LinkedIn pushes back
LinkedIn's own invite limits. LinkedIn allows free accounts only about 5 connection requests with a note per month. When LinkedIn turns a request down for a limit, the recipient's activity explains it. Remove the note or upgrade to Premium.
Repeated refusals pause a campaign. When LinkedIn turns down requests from one campaign for 3 people in a row, that campaign stops sending requests for a day. Other campaigns and your own requests keep going.
LinkedIn limiting your account. Clarify pauses sending from it for at least an hour. Your sends say "LinkedIn is limiting this account. Try again later." and campaign steps wait.
If LinkedIn asks you to verify your identity, lower your daily limits and pause busy campaigns for a few days.
Unconfirmed sends. If LinkedIn doesn't confirm a message, Clarify says "LinkedIn didn't confirm this send. Check LinkedIn to see if it went out." and doesn't resend on its own. If it didn't go out, click Send anyway.
LinkedIn steps in campaigns
Mix LinkedIn steps with email steps in one campaign. Click Add another step and pick one:
Step | What it does |
Visit profile | Views their LinkedIn profile. |
Connection request | Sends a request with an optional note, then waits for them to accept. Looking up their profile first counts toward your daily profile visit limit. |
LinkedIn message | Messages someone you're connected with. |
InMail | Sends an InMail with a subject to anyone, connected or not. Needs Premium, Sales Navigator, or Recruiter with InMail credits. |
Connection request options
If not accepted within sets how many days to wait (14 by default), then continue the sequence (the default) or stop for this person.
When the sequence continues, later LinkedIn message steps are skipped for that person, since you're not connected. Email and InMail steps still send.
Continue if already connected is off by default. Turn it on so existing connections move on to the next step instead of ending their sequence.
Clarify checks for acceptance at least daily and moves on as soon as LinkedIn reports it. A brand-new connection can take a few hours to show.
Timing and limits in a sequence
Wait steps are a minimum. "Wait at least 1 day" means the next LinkedIn step goes out no sooner, and can go later: Clarify adds random delays and stays inside your limits and working hours.
When a daily limit is used up, LinkedIn steps wait for the next working day, and the rest of that person's sequence, including email steps, waits behind them. Nothing is skipped. Several busy campaigns on one LinkedIn account share its limits and slow each other down.
Daily limit on new people (in the campaign's Settings) caps how many recipients start the campaign each day: 20 when turned on, up to 1,000. Follow-up steps never wait on it.
Why a sequence ends early
The recipient's activity shows the reason:
No LinkedIn profile - the person has no LinkedIn URL, or LinkedIn finds no profile there.
Already connected on LinkedIn - a connection request step without Continue if already connected.
Connection request not accepted - the wait ran out on a step set to stop for this person.
Not connected on LinkedIn - a LinkedIn message step to someone you're not connected with, with no connection request before it.
InMail unavailable - the sending account has no Premium or Sales Navigator, or no InMail credits left.
Shares a LinkedIn profile with another recipient - two records point at the same LinkedIn profile, so only one is messaged.
Replied on LinkedIn - they replied and the campaign has Stop on reply turned on.
If the sending account stays disconnected or expired, steps wait about a week before they fail.
People and matching
When a message arrives, Clarify works out who it's from:
The LinkedIn profile. A person with the sender's LinkedIn URL gets the message.
Their work details. No match? Clarify looks up the sender's work email and company and checks your CRM. This uses your workspace's enrichment allowance and costs no credits.
A new person. Still no match? On All conversations and Only people you've contacted, Clarify creates a person with their name, LinkedIn URL, and job title. Only people in Clarify never creates people.
Clarify never merges people on its own. Possible duplicates show up in the Duplicate people list. Merge them there and future messages from that LinkedIn profile land on the merged person.
Disconnect, reconnect, and expired sessions
Session expired
LinkedIn ends a session when you sign out of LinkedIn in the browser you connected from, or when it restricts the account. When that happens:
Clarify tells you once, in the app, by email, and in Slack, with a Reconnect link and the campaigns that send from your account.
The LinkedIn connector shows Session expired.
Your own sends say "Your LinkedIn session expired. Reconnect LinkedIn in Settings."
Campaign steps wait. Reconnect within about a week and they pick up where they left off.
Click Reconnect and sign in to the same LinkedIn profile. A different profile is refused.
Disconnect
Click Disconnect on the LinkedIn connector. If campaigns send from your account, Clarify names them first, and their LinkedIn steps stop. Clarify stops syncing, and messages already synced stay in Clarify, still private to you.
Removing a teammate from the workspace disconnects their LinkedIn.
Deleting a workspace disconnects every LinkedIn account in it.
Troubleshooting
A message didn't sync
It arrived before you connected, your sync option skipped it, you stopped syncing someone in that chat, or it's a sponsored message. A teammate's message shows as Message hidden.
LinkedIn is grayed out in the Send menu
No profile means the person has no LinkedIn URL. Add it on their record.
"Your LinkedIn connections are still syncing"
The first connections sync after you connect is still running. Try again in a few minutes.
A send hit the daily limit
Click Schedule for to queue it for your next working hours, or raise the limit under Daily limits.
A connection request was turned down for a limit
That's LinkedIn's limit, usually the monthly cap on requests with a note for free accounts. Remove the note or upgrade to Premium.
A campaign says "Not connected on LinkedIn" for someone you know
Clarify only knows connections from its last sync, and a brand-new connection can take a few hours to show. Put a connection request step first.
"This LinkedIn profile is already connected in this workspace"
A teammate already connected that profile.
"This LinkedIn account is already connected to another workspace"
Disconnect it in the other workspace first.
"You signed in to a different LinkedIn profile"
Reconnect with the profile this account belongs to.
Limitations
Clarify doesn't import messages from before you connected.
Emoji reactions and attachments such as images and files don't sync. Message text does.
Your LinkedIn connections don't become people in Clarify.
Only campaign steps send InMail. Rep and the record Send menu don't.
Claude and other MCP clients can build campaigns with LinkedIn steps, but can't draft or send a one-off LinkedIn message.
The acceptance wait on a connection request step is set in days.
Clarify can't see what you or other tools do on LinkedIn directly, so its limits don't adjust for that activity.
Agents and workflows can't trigger on a connection request being accepted. Inside a campaign, a Connection request step followed by a LinkedIn message step does this.
FAQ
Does what I do on LinkedIn directly count toward Clarify's limits?
No. Only actions Clarify sends count. LinkedIn still sees everything, so keep your manual activity in mind on busy days.
Do Rep and my campaigns share the same limit?
Yes. Your own sends, Rep, Slack, and every campaign on your account draw from one daily limit per action.
What happens to my campaign when I hit the daily limit?
LinkedIn steps wait for the next working day, and the rest of each person's sequence, email steps included, waits behind them. Nothing is skipped.
Why did a "Wait at least 1 hour" step take longer?
The wait is a minimum. Clarify adds random delays, sends only in working hours, and holds steps once a daily limit is reached.
What if they don't accept my connection request?
By default, after the wait (14 days) the sequence continues: later LinkedIn message steps are skipped, and email and InMail steps still send. Set the step to stop for this person to end the sequence instead.
Can I send a message automatically once someone accepts?
Yes, in a campaign. Add a Connection request step, then a LinkedIn message step after it. The message goes out once they accept and the wait between the steps has passed.
Do I need LinkedIn Premium?
No, unless you want InMail. LinkedIn limits free accounts to about 5 connection requests with a note per month, with notes up to 200 characters.
Is it safe for my LinkedIn account?
Clarify keeps your sends under conservative daily limits, inside working hours, with random gaps, and pauses when LinkedIn pushes back. No tool can promise LinkedIn won't act on an account, so avoid running several automation tools on the same profile.
Can my workspace admin read my LinkedIn messages?
Not as an admin. Only you, and anyone you share a single message with, can read them. The one exception is a workspace agent, which an admin can set up and which runs with workspace access (see How this affects search, Rep, and automations).
How do I keep personal conversations out?
Pick Only people in Clarify or Only people you've contacted, and use Stop syncing LinkedIn messages for anyone else.
Can Rep or my agents send LinkedIn messages on their own?
No. They draft, you send. Only campaigns send in the background.
Why is there a duplicate person?
When Clarify can't match a sender to anyone in your CRM, it creates a new person (on every option except Only people in Clarify). Merge duplicates from the Duplicate people list.
