Adding Leads from Lead Finder

This guide explains how adding leads works, how destination lists affect what you see, and what to check if you cannot find imported records afterward.

Before you add leads

Lead Finder results are separate from your CRM until you use the "Add to" button. You will need to search for your leads first before you can add them to your workspace.

When you add leads:

  • Clarify creates new company or person records when needed

  • Clarify updates an existing record when a match already exists

  • People are matched by email

  • Companies are matched by domain

  • Records always import into Clarify, even if the chosen list's filters don't match the record

  • For matched records, Clarify adds import metadata but does not overwrite existing CRM data

Every Lead Finder import has a destination list. That list choice helps organize the records after import, but it does not change whether the import succeeds.

Add leads into Clarify

Add leads in two ways:

  1. Add selected rows: Select the records you want, then click "Add to list" in the table actions toolbar.

  2. Add from the top-right menu: Use "Add to" in the top-right corner.

    1. If you have rows selected, Clarify adds only that selection.

    2. If nothing is selected, Clarify adds up to 2,500 records from the results you are viewing.

Choose a destination list

When importing, choose whether to send the leads to a new list or an existing list.

Using a new list

  • This is the clearest and easiest option for most workflows.

  • We create a new list and organize the imported records automatically.

Using an existing list

  • We will import the records into your CRM, but they only appear on that list if they match the list's filters.

  • A lead can be imported successfully into Clarify and still not show on the existing list you picked if it doesn't match that list's criteria.

  • When you choose an existing list, Clarify may warn you if that list's filters are unlikely to include the imported records.

Credits

ℹ️ Note

Each new contact imported costs 1 credit. Company imports are free.

If a record already exists in your workspace, you are given the option to include that record in the destination list. We won't re-import or charge any credits for records that already exist in your workspace.

If you don't have enough credits to complete the import, Clarify shows how many leads you can import with your remaining balance.

  • On paid plans, enable on-demand credits to continue. Clarify shows a modal to turn this on. Learn more about billing.

  • On free plans, you'll need to upgrade for more credits

What happens after import

Imported leads become standard Clarify records in your workspace. From there, your team can:

  • Organize them into lists

  • Review enriched data

  • Work them through your normal sales process

  • Add people to campaigns

ℹ️ Note

  • Imports run in the background — large batches may take a moment to finish.

  • When sending contacts through Clarify Campaigns, email addresses are validated before sending to protect your domain reputation.

Creating Campaigns from Lead Finder

If you want a reviewable audience first, create a list and then attach that list to a campaign.

For people searches, the "Add to" menu also includes "Add to Campaign". Clarify creates the campaign from a new list behind the scenes, then takes you to the campaign so you can finish setup. Note: this is only available for people searches, not company searches. Learn more about Campaigns.

Finding your imported leads

If an import finishes but you do not see the records where you expected, check these first:

  1. Open the new list you created during import, if you created one

  2. If you imported into an existing list, remember that the records only appear there if they match that list's filters

  3. Check the main People or Companies view in Clarify, because the records may be in your CRM even if they are not visible on that list yet

  4. If the import was large, give the background job a little time to finish

FAQ

Do I get charged twice for the same contact?

No. If the contact already exists in your workspace, importing that contact again does not use another credit.

Why don't imported leads show up in my existing list?

Existing lists only show records that match their filters. Your import may still have worked even if the records don't appear on that particular list.

What if I want to send imported leads in a campaign?

For people searches, use the dropdown next to the "Add to" button and choose "Add to Campaign". If you want to review and reuse the audience first, create a list and attach that list to a campaign. Learn more about Campaigns.

Can I add company leads directly to a campaign?

Campaigns only support people records. For company searches, import the leads into a list first, then use the contacts from that list in your campaign. Learn more about Campaigns.

Will importing a matched record overwrite my existing CRM data?

No. For records that already exist in Clarify, the import adds metadata (like list labels) but does not overwrite existing CRM data. The import modal also gives you the option to leave existing records entirely untouched.

Can I undo an import?

Imports can't be undone directly. To find recently imported records, open your destination list and sort or filter by Created at or Updated at to identify which records were just added or updated.
